Using Orion on-line bearing configuration program cuts delivery time
Tom Stietz - Design Engineer
Siemens was updating its turbine and generator test stand at its factory in Charlotte, NC. The company needed two bearings, 300mm and 260 mm, designed and built to meet a six-week delivery schedule. The bearings required special features, including axial alignment capability, equal stiffness in horizontal and vertical direction and hydrostatic lift.
Although this time frame would normally be short for new designs of such a large bearings, Siemens got the process jump-started by using the Orion on-line bearing configuration program. The program provided the dimensional package and bearing performance even before the first phone call was placed to Orion. As the dimensions were already determined, the required delivery was achieved within the six-week period.
